Health and safety rules meant that we had to get the fire place fitted before Santa would visit our house....so we obiliged by getting it fitted yesterday (xmas eve).

We also got a couple of lifesize Wally Dogs made up of Skye and Spring.

Good luck for tomorrow. This is one of the shows I really enjoy, so will be thinking of you all enjoying the day out. As I mentioned to Mo recently I won't be there. I don't show a pregnant bitch, nor do I show my other dogs if I have a pregnant bitch, or pups. Just to minimize the chance of infection.

Keep an eye out for a family who live in the village. They have booked one of Seska/Chance's babies and will probably be along for a visit. Don't try to put them off too much. Visiting this lot didn't put them off, so I don't see how they will be...... hee hee

Hi Mo,

Sorry just catching up and noticed you'd asked if we knew of any walks near the show this weekend. It's a bit north of where we are so sorry we don't. I don't expect we'll be able to make this weekend but if that changes I've got Pam's number. (Pleased to hear you had a lovely birthday Pam).

Nicky, why do you think I got rid of mine???? Ok, 2 of them are way past staying at home age and have kids of their own, and Claire spends a lot of time at her dad's but only because we have shared custody. It's so peaceful now they are older.......

Here's a pic of Seska showing her, erm, not too small belly to anyone who wants to see..... only 4 weeks to go now and I still haven't got the whelping room set up. Suppose I'd better make a start this weekend.

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Firstly. Mo, how do you have a shower if you're not, well, erm, naked? hee hee.

Kali used to bring hedgehogs in all the time (or was it the same one?) They were never harmed and were always returned to the garden safely.

I once found a mouse inside my washing powder box! I heard a noise and couldn't figure out where it was comeing from at first. Again, I let it loose. I couldn't touch it though. Even though I used to keep mice when I was younger they were tame ones.

Anyway, here's today's culprit. Taken last year (I haven't put my tree up yet this year.) DSCF0273.jpg

Naked Boodie....

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Who said I was naked??!!

We have baby frogs in the garden..have to be careful when cutting the grass   have to set the blades up high (or dont bother cutting it)  as one can see little frogs  jumping about in front of the lawn mower..I accidently cut the leg off one  and I saw this 3 legged frog jumping about for a long time.. I live beside a massive peat bog  Peat decays to coal  and I live in the coal pit mangers office ...so very wet area ..we have a wee pond behind the house  in the spring when the frogs are going to spawn you will see the frogs making their way up the track to this pond to lay their eggs with another frog on their backs hanging on as it is also needed to feriilise the frog spawn....amazing sight ..all these frogs going to one place. Birds of prey paradise..and Herons   On the moor there are very large puddles which some frogs lay their eggs  and you can see them as tadpoles swimming about  but as the sun starts evaporating the puddles it is a race against time for the baby frogs /..tadpoles to get their legs and become frogs before the puddles dry up>   nature lesson over... Frogs are all right Wendy  but Toads  not so nice  we have them too..Canmore once brought a hedgehog??!!!! into the house through the dog door  ...what a gentle mouth he must have had??
We now have builders building houses on this peat???!!!  right up to the pond??  they are not doing very well in the selling department    I wonder why...

Mo

mice and frogs

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Mo - I would have died having a heart attack.  Mice, not keen (bet the mouse couldn't believe his eyes watching you having a shower !!) but frogs.  I am physically ill, even thinking about frogs or seeing pictures, makes my skin stand on end.  When we lived in Peterborough on a nature reserve, was taking dog for last walk, on one of those very bright moon lit nights but it had disappeared behind cloud, we started to walk up the lane but as the moon appeared we realised we were in the middle of a migration of frogs, hundred of them, they hadn't moved or made a noise till the moon shone again and then they were all over the place.  I thought I'd never survive and since, can't stand to see them as they remind me of that night.  A night of terror.
.... just wondering if your mouse was struck with fear and couldn't move either  seeing a nakid body   ..... !!!

I can beat that..

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Last winter I went into bathroom for  shower.and noticed a wee mouse sitting at the end of the bath  hiding behind a shampoo bottle..I told him to stay there and not move?  the whole time I showered he stayed there but kept peeping out to see what I was doing??!!

When I first moved in here I heard rustling in the middle of the night I got up and found a Frog in my bedroom  caught him and put him outside  a short time later more ruslting   got up ..yet another frog in my bedroom??!!

Mo

Actually I think it's a mole or a vole....

I got up this morning and put the kitchen light on and this little black thing scuttled across the kitchen floor. I need to catch it before the cat decides to hunt it down - again. He's the culprit. He brought it in to play with and it obviously managed to escape. It's not the first mole I've caught in the house, or even the first little furry thing. I've had baby rabbits, mice, voles but thankfully never a rat. I've even had baby birds hiding behind the sofa...... Anyone want a cat..........??????????

On the case

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

My first suggestion at Moncreiffe hill wood  and my second is at Glensherup Auchterarder
and my third is at Cadgers Way Auchterarder  or North of Perth at Scone Palace where we meet the last time at the game fair....when the fair is not there  it is a hugh open area   and I think one can  walk along the river..I was there once when doing agility  and Nicky and her gang and us went for walk along the river bank so.....Or I dont know if Sharon and Jim are coming but maybe they could show us their walking ground?..
She did well....and I got Carol her Christmas present ...well at least she had heard of one so....

Hi,

Thanks everyone for your kind Birthday Wishes!!! I had a lovely birthday. The celebrations started on Thursday when my friend Nicola surprised me with tickets to see Bjorn Again at the Armadillo in Glasgow. I then had a party in my wee flat on Saturday night and finally yesterday my sister made me a lovely birthday dinner, including a very delicious home made birthday cake!!! It's been brilliant.

Back to work & normality today sadly!!!LOL

Really looking forward to the little Xmas show on Saturday. What time is everyone thinking of being there at? I will probably get there for about 10ish. Hopefully the weather will be okay & we can get out a walk after it. Mo is on the case trying to find us soemwhere to go. If anyone knows that area & can suggest a nice place to walk please let us know.

Pam & Elvis

I had a call to tell me that Jenni was going to be calling in sometime today, so I finished wrapping Elise's presents and put them in a carrier and place them ont he floor. Claire's dad turned up to collect her so I went out to speak to him. I was outside for less than 2 minutes and when I came back in the pressies were all over the living room floor....the selection box was in bits and the chocolates missing. AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually found them with only a little bit gone from them, so no one dog had eaten a large amount, thankfully, but that will teach me to leave things where they can reach them. I will have to replace the sweets though, I couldn't give her chocolates with bite marks in them, could I?

I've had enough problems recently with Seska counter surfing. She is starting to think I'm not feeding her. I am, honest...

Happy birthday to Pam for tomorrow. I won't ask a lady her age.......but have a good one.

We wish you a very happy birthday Pam - hope you have a nice day.  Twenty One ??

Mo, love the name Poppy (poppet).    My girls always have another name attached to their name.  Abbie,  Abigale :   Lila,  Loo Loo  :  Ruby, Tuesday.    Yes I know I'm slightly mad.

Our theme this year at church is -  Are you ready ?
Well are you  ??     I'm getting their but not quite.  Where and what are you all up to?
Bet the children are getting excited - thinking about Santa and his 'sack'.
Quiet Day Christmas day for us just Ken, the girls, me and my sister with her Westie Harry.
We send all readers of Scottish Munsters our very best wishes for a very, Healthy and Special Christmas with Joy, Love, Peace and Success in whatever you may do in the New Year.

A good name for a munster.
We are all very pleased with Zeph, he has a lovely nature and despite being bitten by a boxer recently he still wants to say hello to every dog he meets including boxers!

The name Zeph comes from the Greek name Zephyros (which means west wind) I used to live in Greece and one of my mates was called Zeph the ironic thing was that he was absolutely scared witless of dogs and would climb me like a squirrel if even the smallest dog came anywhere near him.

my favorite. I hope I am remembering correctly and he was the one who was Snoopy.

Where did the name Zeph come from?

Zeph..

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Whoo that must be some size of cage??!!!!..did Zeph mind getting his space invaded?

How is he doing ..Penny is "full on" all the time  except for mins. during Home and Away?????

sheep

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Along with everyone else - train it the word leave in every situation (food, toys, objects, dogs and people) - If you walk through sheep, dog on a slip lead, be strict, praise when dog  doesn't look at sheep.  It's not just about sheep training though it must come along with general respect and behaviour in all situations.  Train it to the whistle, in my opinion a must and a 'must' that it 'must' obey.  Willing to talk to owner via email or phone any time.  It is not easy and whilst the dog might even have the slightest desire to run them DO NOT LET HIM OFF THE LEAD.
When the sheep are in lamb too dangerous - our farmers shoot to kill if they see their sheep being run around.  Yes being in with a ram often does work but not always - known many cases when it made the dog more aggressive whereas at first it was a play and chase it then became I'll get you before you get me game.  Citronella - Ruby says yes please  !!  Abbie & Lila hate it even though the collar  was on Ruby.  Hope this helps.  Involved in training several young dogs down here on the moors at the moment and the whistle along with obedience can and does work.  Good luck - because lady luck does play a tiny part too because every dog and every situation is different.

Zoo vet at large

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
I was getting ready to take the dogs out this morning and trying to watch this at the same time so wasn't paying too much attention but I'm sure I saw a munster doing flyball in the background! The vet was at a local village fete and they were talking about a collie (possible cross) as it was taking part. Was I seeing things? Or does anyone know who the munster was?

Linda hmmmm.

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

That is my way although I have not done it..not that dont have to just never walk the dogs where there are sheep (well as far as I know)

Mo

sheep worrying

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

The owner needs to talk to the farmer and explain the problem, and that as the pup is still quite young they would like to train it to stop. Then hopefully the farmer will allow them to take the pup into the field where the sheep are, on a lead! Clicker training is the best way for the next bit, but any form of praise is good. Walk past the sheep trying to keep the pup interested on you, not the sheep. Click and treat when the behaviour is good. A firm no when things aren't. Heal work has to be good or this won't work. I know it isn't easy with a young pup. Everything is interesting, and bodies running away are far more fun than mum or dad. This isn't a quick thing to teach, but essential if walking near sheep is going to be a regular thing.

I won't tell you the way my old Springer was taught not to chase sheep. I wasn't there, but was told that the ram came off best!

to ask if you can walk your dog in one of their fields (with some sheep) with the dog on a long line to start with. Might be difficult just now as it must be about the beginning of the sheeps gestation period. (approx 5 months i think)

Walk in the general direction towards the sheep and anytime dog even looks at or goes towards a sheep then a very strong "leave it" or "no". and retreat away from sheep until your dog calms down and will focus on you either with one of their toys or sit/stay stuff.  Then repeat. If Your dog doesnt calm down then go away and try the next day. You can go down the path of those citronella collars and use initially instead of the "leave it" or "no" commands. They do work unless you have a dog that doesn't mind the smell. i.e. Spring!

You will have to repeat quite regularly as I have found our munsters to be very enquisitive so initially they just want to find out what they are but getting close to the sheep make the sheep run then your dog just loves chasing anything that moves.

Just my two pennies worth.

Sheep worring

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Had email asking "how to stop munsters chasing sheep" Their munster is only 4 months old but I think now is the time to train this out of them.
I have my own thoughts on this (probably not what you would want to hear but......)
Any one any ideas  for these worried munster owners   Their munster is going to be a big boy and very Handsome...

In the summer time it has to be chocolate ice cream - any make will do, so long as it's chocolate.....

Winter time has to be hot apple strudel and vanilla ice cream.....

If I'm out in the car then it has to be chocolate. Cadbury's Caramel preferred but any chocolate.

Glad to hear you have doors Carol. I had a mental image of you nailing blankets to the door frames.......

then I'll add - Hagendas Strawberry Cheesecake Icecream

mmMM!

Umm yes please

Ok Carol you can have your caramel/chocolate and tea if I can have hazelnut dairy milk, coffee and a Bailey's  -

Any body else want to tell us what their favourite comfort food is  ??

Cadbury's Caramel and a cup of tea.

You may have cold bodies but you have warm hearts.

Scotch broth, polo mints and munsters - what more do you need !

We have doors now. ;-)

We dont have a fireplace as removed way back in August and a fireplace fitter let us down.  Went somewhere else 3.5 weeks ago and they said 4-6 weeks. Fireplace pieces ready - just waiting on their fireplace fitters to schedule us in.

the current fire has a back boiler to heat the water for central heating etc.

Were using a portable gas heater just now and so so glad have two dogs. Use as book ends and things quite cosy.

One problem Linda  they do not have doors??!!

Mo

Colin and Carole, I hope you are managing to keep warm and dry in this weather. The rest of us in nice warm and cosy houses tend to forget those who aren't. When my first hubby and I removated a house we lived in it at the time, but most of the work was done in the summer time so it wasn't too bad. Keep the doors closed in the rooms you aren't using and keep the fire going. And make sure you wrap up well.

kelsey would like to thank you all for wishing her a happy birthday. she is taking it easy at the moment lying in her chair snoozing. dad is at the butchers getting 7 of the big bones that he keeps for us. kelsey and her furry friends will be chomping later. her teeth are surprisingly good for her age and she still manages to gorge a bone down to nothing. we will probably play pass the bone at the party as they do that anyway as they always think the the other dogs got the better one!!! she is a remarkable old girl and we are very proud and happy that she has reached such a wonderful age still full of life and very healthy. happy birthday old girl.

Ellie and Kizzie send Auntie Kelsey lots of love and licks for her birthday.

Well done Kelsey... Have a good day.

The montage is all Colins work.  He used the Picasa software from Google. They've recently upgraded and Colin thought the "montage" feature was very good and easy to use.

Happy birthday Kelsey. I remember going to see this litter and picking her out as my favourite, even then! LOL!

Oddly enough I found some old catalogues yesterday as I was tidying the spare room. I spent over an hour just looking and remembering the old shows where Kelsey used to beat us regularly.....! Have a good day Kelsey. You deserve it.

Yes special birthday wishes to Kelsey - a lovely girl.  Reba and Kelsey met quite a few times in the show ring.  Give her big hugs from us.  Wendy, Abbie, Lila and Ruby
