I'm so sorry to hear of your problems. I have heard of that illness, but unfortunately I know very little about it. I just know that it's not easy to watch them go downhill, knowing that there isn't much you can do to help. I hope you find out more about it and that there is something you can do to help.
As to the dog attacks, is it the ill dog that is being attacked? If so then the other one is probably picking up on that fact. Dogs can sense things that aren't quite right, which is why they pick on dogs that have epilepsy. It triggers the attack mode. If it isn't then I can only offer the advice of trying to keep them apart.
My neighbour has a GSD bitch that attacks other dogs. She will only attack Seska out of my 3, and I'm convinced it's because the first time they met Seska was pregnant and was not happy with this new 'intruder' next door. I can't leave Seska out if Heide is in the garden. Heide has attacked other dogs in the street, so it's not just Seska. Heide is a rescue dog. We have wondered if she was used as bait for fighting dogs in the past, and this is why she attacks first. It's a reflex.
