Kai

Rather like Cassie I did not meet Kai but I heard all about him and of course he was Lucy's Dad.It was very strange but Lucy was very subdued over the weekend especially when I went home last night having read the sad news on here. She stayed in her cage all evening even though the door was open, perhaps further evidence of an animals sixth sense. My heart goes out to everyone in the Logie household as I went through a similar experience earlier in the year when I had to make the same decision about my beautiful Flat Coat Dog - Harry, only in his case it was a terrible cancer which the vets couldn't treat.

So Sorry x

To all at Logie land

I have never met any of you, or Kai, but my thoughts are with you all.  I know I am going to have to make the same decision tomorrow about Sasha (my GSD).  I understand what you are going through completely, as I know everyone else does too  If dog's souls transcend time and people, then I'm sure he's running free with Terry, Jess, Pepi, Deefa, Sam and Zues (as long as Kai liked mongrels, German Shepherds and Great Danes!).  Take care,,,,,,

To Nicky, Eric, Erin & Jason,

I am so so sorry to hear your news. Kai certainly had 1 of the biggest characters I have seen in a munster. You always Heard him before you saw him that´s for sure. He was a lovely boy & I know how much you will miss him. My thoughts are with you all at the sad time.

Run Free over the Bridge Kai. Alba & Islay will be waiting for you.

Nicky, I was so sorry to hear of his untimely demise. BUT you know you did the right thing by him. He would have hated a restricted life. Some dogs could have coped, but not Kai. You have to consider the dogs welfare first. As I said to you yesterday it's better a day too early than a day too late.

{{{{hugs}}}} to you and your family.

Skye and Spring will miss their dad...big time

Very sorry to hear about the difficult decision you had to make but just think he is running free now with his pal Alba looking after him.

We will always remember him being full of life and a loyal companion to you all

Best wishes

To All in Logie Land

I was devastated to hear of your sad news. Kai was a very special boy who as you know was very close to my heart. He was a darling boy who was only to willing to provide my munster fix when we lost Islay and gave us the gift of a little bundle of fun to help ease the pain, which I am sure paws is doing for you now. He was a wonderful boy with some wonderful children a true tribute to him.

I know he will be missing you all but I am sure Alba and Islay will be looking after him as he runs about like a nutter once more.

Nicky it was only last May that Kai went through a massive operation to get the "plate" put into his leg  after he broke it falling off a cliff. He was on cage rest for about 6 months after that  and he hated it  The vet had said his leg would be stronger than his other legs !! So to put him through that again  with the possibility at the end of the operation not working  was indeed not an option . You and Eric and Erin  Jason made the right decision for Kai  maybe not an easy one but the right one.
We are all thinking of you all

Very sad news here. We had to make the horrible and hard decision to have kai put to sleep. his leg flaired up this week and swoll to three times normal size and he had a raging temp. the vet took him i and looked and xrayed it and we took him home bandaged up, the next day at the vet he looked at the leg again and a gash of 4 inches had burst on his leg right down to the plate. it had been full of infection because the plate is a foriegn  body. we took him home and were told he would need to have plate removed and after months of rest he might be ok or his bone might not hold and would break the minute he put any strain on it. that is not a great thing to be faced with and to put him through it all for nothing just wasnt an option. kai as you all knew was a love wire and wouldnt like being caged up and not allowed to run for the rest of his life so we made the decision to let him go to sleep. it was the hardest thing we have ever done but it was for him we did it. please understand how we feel at this time and let us have time to come to terms with it.

I know nothing of this disease but have found this click here it seems a good article
The sick GSD may be attaching other dogs because she is in pain?
But as Linda says be guided by your vet    It is always sad when our dogs are ill

I googled and found this http://neuro.vetmed.ufl.edu/neuro/DM_Web/DMofGS.htm  It's an American site but it explains it ok. I knew I'd heard of the disease and now can remember why. A friend's dog had it and they made the decision to let him go with dignity, before it became too hard to handle. Quality of life was paramount in their decision, not only of the dog in question, but of their other GSD. Though I think he'd had it for a while before they let him go. Only you can make the decision on what to do, but be guided by your vet.

Dog Attacks

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Its the ill one (bitch) attacking the male, she also attacked my sister's dog last September, causing a cut in his scalp needing 12 stitches.  Thankfully she's never shown any aggression towards Cassie, the munster.  My worry is the risk of a child getting hurt either directly or indirectly from one of her attacks.......

Dog attack

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

I'm so sorry to hear of your problems. I have heard of that illness, but unfortunately I know very little about it. I just know that it's not easy to watch them go downhill, knowing that there isn't much you can do to help. I hope you find out more about it and that there is something you can do to help.

As to the dog attacks, is it the ill dog that is being attacked? If so then the other one is probably picking up on that fact. Dogs can sense things that aren't quite right, which is why they pick on dogs that have epilepsy. It triggers the attack mode. If it isn't then I can only offer the advice of trying to keep them apart.

My neighbour has a GSD bitch that attacks other dogs. She will only attack Seska out of my 3, and I'm convinced it's because the first time they met Seska was pregnant and was not happy with this new 'intruder' next door. I can't leave Seska out if Heide is in the garden. Heide has attacked other dogs in the street, so it's not just Seska. Heide is a rescue dog. We have wondered if she was used as bait for fighting dogs in the past, and this is why she attacks first. It's a reflex.

Does anyone know anything about this disease?  It looks like my 11 yr old German Shepherd has developed this - a disease which is untreatable and will progessively attack the back legs, leading to paralysis and incontinence - so the vet tells me.  On top of that the same dog attacked my male GSD last night, very nearly blinding him.  This is the second time in 3 months that she's drawn blood. Just trying to get as many "health" facts as I can to help me make a decision which may be heartbreaking.  Hoping I can do something to prevent that which seems almost inevitable.............

hee hee

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

The show is on Saturday so I don't have to keep them clean for too long. Though they don't get too mucky anyway as they go swimming daily. I can't go for long walks as Seska is still wearing that lovely perfume........we have to go out in pairs, not all together, and Chance isn't happy about his running mate...........it's the wrong one!!!!!!

Guess which dog hasn't had too many baths? Oh well, she'll just have to get used to them. I've just about recovered.

Thanks Linda for your step by step guide on bathing your dogs.  Your description made me laugh.  Now youv'e got to keep them clean till the show!

Hope you have a nice day at the show on sat/Sun?.  We will be staying in wir new house... just found the remote for the tele... but the arial disnae work!    Thats job 945 on the list.

Well of to do number 25!

If anyone is passing then feel free to pop in but dont wear your good clothes!  Address avail on request.

If this weather doesn't start brightening up soon it looks like wellies and brollies on Saturday. I hate showing under tents. You can't see the poles and ropes as well as you can outside. Unless our judge is of the opinion that 'gundogs' should be shown outside......

Oh, I made a little mistake earlier. Chance ISN'T yodelling, just whining a little bit, and thankfully not all the time. I don't know how I'd manage with a yodeller. The whining is bad enough. Just keep reminding me - NO MORE MALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does anyone else cope with dogs and bitches in the same household? Especially at THAT time?

On a score from....to  I dont  to very badly ++++++ I have 2 Bitchs in " ragging season"  and 1 very willing over sexed boy  and 1 very confused puppy  in the house at the moment    and they are maybe enjoying  but Maggie & I are not.

showing

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

That's a good idea Mo. Will it also be showing the best way to tidy a dog up for the ring? It's something I never really had to do with my dogs as their coats were never too full. Pepsi is already far more fuller coated than Seska and I have trouble keeping it tidy. Especially just now when I'm taking it out in chunks....... Could almost make a jumper out of what I've collected this week LOL!

Only a week to go before I get PEACE and QUIET in this household. Yes, Chance is trying to whisper sweet nothings into Seska's ear. She is telling him to clear off (not very quietly either!?!?!) Still, at least he is yodelling like some dogs. How does anyone else cope with dogs and bitches in the same household? Especially at THAT time? I should have a few months free now. Pepsi was in season a couple of moths ago so not expecting her in any time soon.

Ringcraft

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

We are trying to organize a "master class" in handling your dog in the show ring  or how to get the best out of your dog in the show ring. In the first instance this would be a "one off " class  but if required we would try to arrange further classes.

We are trying to get one of Scotland's top handlers to take the class.

Many people to go ringcraft classes but do not get out of them what they require..  maybe the person taking the class has a collie and really no experience on handling munsters?!   If you get the foundations of what you should be doing  you can use your ringcraft class to socalize  your dog  both with other dogs  and the "ring experience" and to practice your new found skills. So this "master class" would not replace your ringcraft class but complement it.

If you would be interested let us know  you contact us at   for more info

What a beautiful view from your back garden - I really do envy you, and I hope you all will be very happy there in 'seventh heaven'.  Lots of space for my little motor home I see ???
Took my grand-daughter to a near by petting farm today - I loved it, feeding the lambs, cuddling the baby calves, stroking the ponies, picking up the rabbits and saying Aww at the baby chicks. There was a mummy pig there named Wendy - Hannah couldn't stop laughing.
They provided a yard brush so you could scratch her back.  Just an idea for you to consider,
I am sure Spring and Skye would love animal friends to 'play' with !!

Hi Carol, Colin, Spring and Skye - pleased to read today is the day - I hope is has or is going well despite the miserable weather.  I didn't ask when I saw you last week as I was unsure what was happening and didn't want to remind you of any 'problems' on a lovely weekend, but did think about you.   You will have to send me your address when you are good and ready - electric hook ups, bacon and egg breakfasts, showers, to name but a few extras !!
Much happiness to you all in your new home and 'land'.  Wendy

Good luck tomorrow for your "new pad" hope you have many happy years in your new home

Hi

Did think that the JB would be best for starters, but wasn't sure about any of the other classes - "stakes"?????

I'm in the Bristol area, so if any one can recommend a good ring class, she seems to stand well and runs well with me as she's already done intermediate obedience.  Any tips on the preparation of her?  In terms of coat etc?

Mo, when would be a good time to call you tomorrow (Thursday)?

Show Help

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Hi,

As you have missed the postal closing date for Paignton you will have to enter on line via Higham Press - www.highampress.co.uk Down the left handside of the page click on dog.biz This will take you to the website that you can enter Paignton from. You will 1st have to register your dog. For this you will need your kennel club registration certificate as there will be some information on that which you will need to enter. Once you have done this you will be able to enter the show. There are step by step instructions. Best thing to do would be to get Cassie registered 1st then give Mo a call & she can talk you through it (I would have talked you through it but I'm going on holiday tonight, Sorry!!). Don't panic the online entries don't close til the 27th so you have got time to get it all sorted.

As Cassie will only be 17 months on the day of the show I would recommend entering her into Class 1262 - JB (Junior Bitch). This class is for Bitches not exceeding 18 months of afe so she should sit nicely in that class.

As for preparation before hand - have you been to any ringcraft classes? If there is 1 on your area it might be worth going along to a few just to learn the ropes. Where abouts are you? I'm sure someone will know of 1 in your area. If you can't find 1 then you basically need to get her to stand nice & still & get her used to having someone running their hands over her & checking her teeth. You will then also need to teach her how to run nicely beside you as you will be asked to move her during the class. As I am not the best at explaining these things I will leave it here & let someone else add anything they might think will be helpful.

Was surfing the net this morning & found this - www.thebark.com Looks like an american magazine. Amazingly (& randomly) they have a Large Munsterlander as their Cover Dog for the May/June 2008 Issue. The dog is Boog who lives in New York. If my memory serves me right he is a Scottish Bred Munster???

Pam

Anyone, please help.  I am thinking of entering Cassie into the Paignton Dog Show but have never done it before!  As a beginner, I would appreciate any advice on what classes to enter and what preparation we both need to do before hand..........Cassie will be 17mth on the day of the show..............

What an excellent weekend.  I thoroughly enjoyed helping out with the judging at the Nat Apt day and hope the all competitors enjoyed watching their munsters do munster things ... not always what we owners want them to do ... but that's munsters for you. And if you the owner didn't get it quite right, that fine too, hope you learnt something from the day to help you next time.
Company great, food  too, and no complaints about the scottish mist, we had sun every day.
Looking forward to seeing more pictures - I think someone took one of someone eating a big dish of danish pastry and strawberries and cream (in the same dish).  I'll pay you not to publish !

Champ Show  .... again nice to see new people to the breed.
Travel safely those who are coming down to Blackpool I understand we are first in the ring !!

Good Morning,

Well, what a fantastic weekend!!!! Great Weather, Great Company, lot & lots of Lovely Munsters - ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!!!!!

So much to say about the weekend. Saturday was a great success - well done to Helen for organising it. Big thanks to the judges for coming up & making the day so enjoyable for all those who took part too & Finally a BIG WELL DONE to those handlers whose dogs achieved a pass - especially our Junior Handlers, Erin with Paws & Polly with Douglas. Well Done Guys you did a great job. The eye testing clinic went well too - so thanks to Prof. Sheila Crispen for making the journey up to run it for us. I didn't run Elvis in the Nat Apt myself as I was busy helping on th Admin for the eyes in the morning & then I was helping with thr BBQ at lunchtime. Elvis did get a run though in the afternoon & he had a ball playing with all the dogs. It was lovely to see so many new faced @ the Nat Apt. Elspeth, Gregor & Ceilidh, John, Polly & Douglas, The Bowes family with their gorgeos little puppy Brodie & not forgetting John, Fiona & the very handsome Aero who was as yummy as ever. Honestly, it was a fantastic day & I can't wait to do it all again next year!!! Oooops, almost forget, big big thanks to Eric & Fiona who manned the food tent at lunchtime - making sure everyone had everything they needed.

Yesterday was another lovely day out. Everyone was in high spirits & chatty. Vicky, it was great to see you & your family. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your weekend - so glad the weather stayed nice. Need to get planning the BIG celebrations for next year - isn't that right Vicky???!!! Big party in a field sounds like a good plan!!!LOL I was very pleased with Elvis' 2nd in Limit - again he behaved well so that was the most important thing.

All in All it was a brilliant weekend - Thanks

Well I am off on my holidays this week - I fly out to Nerja in the Costa Del Sol on Thursday for 10 days. I can't wait.

I hope those of you going to any shows (Blackpool, Windsor or Dundee Open Show) have fun & do well. Also any of you who are going to Hall Barn, I hope you have a fantastic time - can't wait to hear all about it when I get back. I know Polly & Douglas will be giving it a go - so good luck to you 2. I am sure you'll do brilliantly!!!

Pam

I have just heard a lovely story.

A munster owners' house was being burgled a few nights ago. The resident dog went and woke mum! He then went back downstairs and apprehended the burgler (I'm not sure exactly how!) and the burglar was arrested.

It got me to thinking what would your dog/s do? Mine would make so much noise that a burglar wouldn't even dare to come into the garden! But then I live in a very quiet area and any noise outside is investigated - loudly!!!!! Mine have scared off would be burglars/prowlers in the past, but we've never had anyone breaking in.

We are always looking for staff. Glad to hear Lucy will keep her soft coat, her ears are like silk. A number of people have suggested she could be a healing dog or whatever they are called but I don't have the time and Brian doesn't have the inclination! Have to teach her to drive!!!!

Lucy & coats

Lucy my Jager is a really soft coat  and has had since he was a puppy  so yes they keep their soft coats.
Glad she is coming on  she looks lovely in the photo.  Are you still looking for staff???

litters

There are two litters that are on the LMC puppy list at the moment, and two planned litters.

Lovely day, lovely weather I have been most of the day with my grand-daughter - a couple pictures attached.

DSC00208.JPG DSC00228.JPGStruggled to get Lucy to pose for the camera she was too busy supervising the Break down after the Birthday Party. She came out to meet friends a couple of times during the evening and everyone thinks she is gorgeous. Being a novice Munster owner I need to answer the one question that everyone asks," Will her coat always be as soft as it is now?"  DSC00186.JPG. I have found one way of getting her to lie in on Sunday morning - have a disco until 1.00am!! She didn't wake up until 9.00am.

Puppies

Karen, yes that's normal. Some bitches are worse than others when it's time for their babies to leave the nest. This is one of the reasons that I like my pups to go over several days. Mum sort of knows that something is happening but isn't quite sure what! It's also another reason why I wait until pups are 8 weeks old, not 7. Mum has had another week to get fed up with always having a pup trying to become an earring!!!

I made a slight mistake earlier. I missed out on the RESERVE part of Pat's bitch puppy's win. She won the Reserve Challenge Certificate, not as stated. Sorry.........

I hope it's ok to put this on here Mo - just delete it if not

After much deliberation I have decided this weekend that I'm not going to keep my little Indie

after all.  She is just too close in age to Ekko (my unplanned little bonus) who is only just 12

months, which is what I have thought all along.  I did try to make myself think it would be ok

as she was Inca's baby but if I am having doubts it can't be. It is rather a shame though as she

should make a lovely working dog .  She is now seven weeks old and if anyone knows anyone

who would like a nice little bitch to work could you please pass on my details to them.  Her

father is a lovely german dog who did very well in all of his working tests over there and Inca is

a very good working dog too.  I've put a couple of photos of her on here so that anyone can see

what she looks like.  The last one was taken this morning.

The others are all beginning to go to their new homes.  Poor Inca was running around on Friday

night obviously looking for the missing ones.  Is that normal - I've never had a litter before?

....Look at all those lovely rosettes & trophies!!! Well Done Again - It must be like a dream. I imagine we all WISH something like this would happen to us but how it must feel when it does happen - fantastic!!!!

That was excellant news about Diva getting her 3rd CC - the Blitzan family must be over the moon too.

It's also nice to see different dogs & bitches doing so well - a lot of "1sts" on Saturday for some owners.

1 down only 2 more to go Linda!!!!

Pam

DSCF0374.jpgDo you think we'll come down to planet some time this week?!?!?!?

I was so gobsmacked when we won Open Dog, that I even forgot that it gave him his stud book number!!!!

I still can't believe we did so well...!!

Well worth the early start, the sore muscles from sitting in one position for so long, and the fear of never even being able to go due to car problems.

Thank you to everyone who congratulated us.

It was a good day for all top honours.

Ali and Diva got their 3rd CC, Gail and Raffle winning their first RCC, Pat (with Tina handling) winning her bitches first CC and of course my favourite boy doing so well.......

Actually, when I looked at the catalogue afterwards a lot of the class winners came to dogs/bitches bred and/or owned by Scots! A good day out.

Hi,

Just catching up on all the news from the weekend. HUGE Congratulations to Linda & Chance on taking DCC & BIS - You must be over the moon!!!! Also to Gayle & Ruffle on taking RDCC - what a great achievement. Well Done to both of you.

I must admit after the lovely weekend Mo & I had with the dogs I am glad we never made the journey to the Club Show. The weather up here was lovely & the dogs had a ball down by the clyde swimming then hunting on the moor. Maggie is such a start - she was giving Elvis a real run for his money in the water - mind you his mind did seem to be on other things, isn't that ringht Mo?!!!LOL ;-)

Well, Nat Apt & Border Union next - really really looking forward to this weekend I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Wendy I do have a gundog slip lead & whistle that I can use on Saturday. Although I think you might have quite a queue of people wanting some training so only if you can fit me in.

Training

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Wendy,

Do you think Elvis & I (well probably more I actually ;-) ) could book some time with you next weekend?? Elvis is a million times better than he used to be but I do still find it hard to make myself "EXCITING" enough for him to come back to me on a walk. He will come back if we are out with other dogs, as if he's following by example, but when it's just him & I I often get what we scots call "Rubber Eared"!!! Any help or advice you could give me would be much appreciated.

I was hoping to get to this event this year, but my car is very sick. I'm having to borrow Bruce's car this weekend. I don't think he'll let me borrow it again so soon. Looks like I'll be missing out on a good day out - again (boo hoo) I just wish we could find the problem. We've replaced a few things, but it still isn't working right. Might be better spending the money on a banger.......

puppy training

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Yes, have offered to run puppy 'school' - also those that would like to train their pups/young dogs - even older dogs to the whistle.  Really looking forward to the weekend - and hoping the weather will be kind to us.  Cheers  W

Wendy are you still running a puppy class at Nat App in Kelso 14th June  below picture of puppy school last year with Wendy.. & at Nat App you can get  your dogs eyes tested by
Professor S Crispen .

SCHOOLPUPPY-copy.jpg

For those who think Pam might be kidding about the afternoon tea - she's not.
Even if you aren't planning on entering Nat Apt - just go for the food and friendship.
A chance to watch, learn and enjoy yours, and others of course, Munsters.
In beautiful grounds.  You may not be interested in working or even showing you munster but the day is well worth the trip out - you never know - you just might pick up a tip or two (or a pound or two after eating the food available).
Looking forward to seeing a whole new crowd of Munsters and owners.   Wendy
My caption hasn't worked again so I will put it here    ...  I think one is saying to the other

Can I have some ..... please.
NO !

Wendy,

I am sure there will be PLENTY Bacon Butties on the go next weekend at the Nat Apt as well as lots of other delicious foods. Mo & I will be planning the Menu (& prices - for cost recovery purposes only) this week. I know no matter what - there will be Strawberries & Cream & Danish Pastries for afternoon tea!!!!LOL

Loved the "Thought for Today". I often get those types of e-mails - always make me smile.

Mo, glad you are up for Abes Loch this weekend, Rhuri will love it. I will give you a buzz tomorrow to make a plan.

Pam

Don't anyone mention the good weather ... still inside painting walls and ceilings
five rooms done - two more to go before Monday when the carpet fitter arrives.
Moral of this is when renting out a property check their references !!!

That's my moan over, yes please for the bacon sandwiches but Pam we are not up till the following weekend !!

Put my caption on the picture Mo, but as yet it has not displayed it.  If not on when I look later will do it again.
Michele just sent me a brilliant email - I know a lot of you who read this are too young to understand it, but maybe one day you will.  Cheers for now.  Wendy

Girlie Wisdom!

Women over 50 don't have babies because they would put them down and forget where they left them.

A friend of mine confused her Valium with her birth control pills... she has 14 kids but doesn't really care.

One of life's mysteries is how a 2-pound box of chocolates can make a woman gain 5 lbs.

My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.

The best way to forget your troubles is to wear tight shoes.

The nice part about living in a small town is that when you don't know what you are doing, someone else does.

The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your body and your fat are really good friends.

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

Sometimes I think I understand everything, and then I regain consciousness.

I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers.

Amazing!  You hang something in your closet for a while and it shrinks 2 sizes!

Skinny people irritate me!  Especially when they say things like...'You know sometimes I forget to eat!' .....Now I've forgotten my address, my mother's maiden name and my keys, but I have never forgotten to eat.  You have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat!

The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing and then they marry him.

I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding?  That's my idea of a perfect day!

SEND THIS TO 5 BRIGHT WOMEN YOU KNOW AND MAKE THEIR DAY!!!
LIVE SIMPLY.....LAUGH OFTEN....LOVE DEEPLY
