Puppy Training

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Sounds like your doing a fab job with Jazz, amazing what a bit of training can do. My collie pup is the same age as your pups and she took very ill in between her jags and landed up in the vet hospital, luckily for me tho I train puppy classes and was able to get her back to socialising very quickly. In our classes we request that for the initial 4 week training period owners dont use food bowls at all, they all look at you like your nuts, but boy does that change when they try it and get fantastic results with hand feeding and kongs etc. The main thing we are aiming to teach in the first 4 weeks is bite inhibition which handfeeding is very good for. Jazz's owners are very luck to have you on hand to help out, i'm sure he'll be back on track really quickly.

Another pic of Jazz asleep as I type.  If you could ever request the perfect colouring for a munster I now would say similar to Jazz, not too dark, not too light, ticks and spots on body and legs and an essential white tail to see when they are out working.  But you can't dictate and you get and love what God gives you. I would never have missed or changed Reba, Abbie or Lila for the world, it is just like humans beauty is only skin deep.  I am a perfect size 8, well I would be if I were a foot taller. Bit late now time for my beauty sleep !! Wendy

changes !

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Well, I've only not logged in for a couple of days and what changes ... I read the last post talking about vacs, Pam's sister had a very large baby (congratulations, was it a normal delivery ?) and then there are the cute pics of pups and animations, what next !!
My news is that I have got one of my puppies back for a bit of training.  Before he completed his course of vacinations he came down with a bad tummy bug, hence the vet said he was NOT allowed out anywhere and of course the bug left him feeling very hungry so he started to 'guard' his food and protect any treat or chew. Without realising that boredom, frustration and hunger, a very bright munster had decided to be 'boss', and because of his illness he was allowed to get away with his possessive behaviour.
-Users-wendylacy-Desktop-DSCF2309.JPG He has now been here a couple of days and already a different puppy (only thirteen weeks old) been out with us everywhere, the girls giving him confidence especially Ruby his litter sister  (who always was little miss bossy britches) and we are doing positive rewards.  I sit on the floor with his bowl of food in between my knees and hand feed him his dinner from his dish. When he has a chew, bone or toy and I want it back, especially when it's something taken out of the wash basket, he quickly knew the word sausage (cold cooked Morrison's special) and we do an exchange.  Just shows how quickly things can start to go wrong.
You couldn't want a more loving family trying to do their best but puppies need/must be socialised from an early age and don't take for gospel the amount it says give a puppy to eat from the packet. I have more than doubled the amount it said, in fact I fed till he was full and the poo's stayed 'normal'.-Users-wendylacy-Desktop-DSCF2311.JPGIf anyone else has experienced this type of behaviour - I call it possessive rather than aggressive - as he is the most loving little boy that you could want - love to hear any more helpful techniques. Will try put a pic up of him with some of my girls.

Hi,

Thanks for the congratulations, we are all delighted she is finally here & that she is fit & well. Angie didn't get the birth she wanted (she had planned a home birth), baby was in distress so had to come out by section. I think with the size of her it was perhaps a good thing!!!LOL

As for colour, I do have a preference for the flashier black & whites to the dark roans. I think that's what's so great about our breed, the colouring can be so varied. I remember when I 1st started showing, Elvis was one of the only really black & whites out but now they are more common & we are seeing less of the really dark in the ring, I think it's just trends, probably in a couple of years the darks will come back & the black & whites will be less popular!!! For me though I will always look for a lighter coloured pup for myself but as long as I end up with a nice natured, well balanced dog who is fit & healthy I will be happy.

Mo, I'm glad you are up for tomorrow. I will come over for 9am then?

As you say linda you cant really think about the colour you want. When we were thinking of alba's litter as the dog was very black and white we thought we might get a lighter one but not white as eric really doesnt like them too white so when the pups arrived and there was only one bitch  - you guessed it she was going to be dark. Saying that a more lovely bitch you could not have had and it was so tragic we only had her for a short time as she was a real stunner. Hogan was picked because he was cute and we all liked him!! Kelsey cos she sucked my finger aged 1 day old!!! Kai and his brother were near identical in marking very black saddled so we knew from the out what he would look like and he is typical munster, and wee paws well you all know why she stayed nothing to do with her coliur or make or shape just because we fell for her and she seemed to fall for us so she stayed - are we happy - yeah we couldnt be happier with her she is a lovely natured well adjusted young lady who has a great attitude to life she is ticked but it didnt matter . there werent actually any real dark ones in the litters, kai seems to throw different colours but never too dark. you just got to go with what you like - shows are now and again but dogs fill your heart everyday so who cares. watching my kids play with the dogs and teach them things is so rewarding that no prize can replace that.

Before I do anything else, congrats on the birth of your niece Pam. That's a good size! None of mine reached 7lbs! In fact, Jenni was only 5 lbs 10 ozs!! Claire was the biggest at 6 lbs 10 ozs. That felt huge. I'd hate to think how I would have coped with a bigger one!!!!!

Anyway, I was speaking to someone today about colours in munsters. As most of you know I have 2 black and white, and 2 roan munsters. I still want a much whiter one, but never seem to like the ones I get to look at in the nest. I always seem to prefer the darker ones!?! As the breed standard calls for a head that is predominantly black, and the body basically any shade, so long as there are black and white bits somewhere (ok, I'm taking the liberty of stretching it a bit....) do you guys have a colour preference, or does it really matter?

Nothing to do with cars Mo!  We are pushing the birds back in the direction of their release pens, as if they are allowed just to keep wandering, they will do just that and keep going further and further away.  It gives us the opportunity of some points and practicing steadiness to the flush and steadiness when there are a lot of birds just running around.  K

Hiding food

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Seska does this. She is keeping it safe from the other dogs, just in case her puppies need it later on........ I've found food in my bed on occasion.... Silly dog. It's normal, but annoying. Lift her food as soon as she starts digging. It won't do her any harm to miss a meal or two. If you are really worried that she isn't eating just give her little at a time, but several times a day instead of normal times. Though personally I wouldn't do this as it might encourage the phantom to go on a bit longer. But I know how difficult it is when they don't eat......

season

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Hi Carol - I found Pulsatilla 30c helped all my three - Reba was particularly affected.  I never cut down on food because all three went off eating at some point and I was more concerned they would loose too much weight.
Also I used Hormonise if I felt they were coming into season to help balance their hormones.  I never took toys away but none were possessive over them at any time.  Christine O also suggested not to swim them when in season because they are more 'open' to catch infections, but always had lots of exercise.

Good to hear the news about Kai and glad others had a good time with agility and showing. I didn't enter any shows so nothing much happening for us.  Might take Lila out beating soon - she certainly is back to full fitness just lacking a thick fur jacket !!  Looking forward to Monday going to see Fee's pups - if I remember, will take my camera and take you some pics - Christine said they are not into pic taking like me - but having thirteen now at three weeks old, will be time consuming.

Erin and Jason have you written to Santa yet ?    Wendy

Gill, glad you had a good day out. We all need a break from the norm now and then.

Phantom pregnancies. I've had bitches in the past that had terrible ones. The only thing to do is what you are already doing. Less food, more exercise and no toys. If she fills up with milk you can go to the vets for something, but be careful. If they give you galastop (which most do) it could cause problems if you want to breed from your bitch in the future. Though not all bitches are affected by it. Basically it helps dry up the milk, but it is also used to cause bitches to abort so be cautious.

I should be at Auchterarder, I've got a shield to return (or bring home again.....!!) Will be counting the pennies to see who I will be bringing though. Kind of short this week. New specs cost money..... I will get used to these things. Hopefully.........

Bruce gave me a bread maker yesterday. He doesn't use it and was going to throw it out so I took it. I tried it out today. All I can say is hmm, not sure about it. I think I might try out a couple of the recipes before it ends up in the back of the cupboard.....

Well my lot did my very proud both girls were fantastic at the fun agility and even went off and did it with handlers they had never met. Ellie had fun in the ring and was perfectly behaved but couldnt compete with little sis Kizzie who won best puppy and best trick. Both were fantastic with the crowds and the occasional naughty child and just loved all the attention.

Right I better go and make the most of the peace while they are all sleeping.

Also ignore  alll her funny activities??!

Realised its nearly christmas when the milk carton has use by 2nd December.

Can't believe the highs and lows I've had in the last few weeks trying to find a new house and sell our own. Still nothing on the horizon.

Also been looking through all the photos that we have taken this year and there aren't as many as I thought. Backed them up to DVD as pc starting to do some unpredictable things.  eh Mo!

Also not enough material to create any personalised chrissy presents this year - sorry folks.

Wee Skye is doing some weird things just now as its about 9weeks after her 2nd season.. she did similar things the last time.  Is there anything I should or should not do in these situation?.   I've hidden the toys as one is her favorite puppy!

Really glad Kai has been given the all clear and it was great to see him walking about the last time we saw him and it is difficult to tell which leg was damaged Also, keeping fingers crossed for Tilly.

Anyone going to Auchterarder?

Hi,

Sorry I haven't been on for a while, I don't know where the time has gone!! No Mo, no baby yet. He or She must be so snuggly & warm that he/she doesn't want to come out into the freezing, wet winter. I don't blame him/her!!!LOL I am hoping I will be an auntie soon though (for my sisters sake if nothing else, I think she is starting to feel pretty uncomfortable!!).

Linda, I am glad you are thinking of coming to the Nat Apt next year. It is a brilliant day out & the more the merrier. Elvis & I will be there again next year (4th time lucky!!!LOL ).

Wendy, you are organised. I am going to start my shopping tomorrow, I am hoping to get it all done in 1 go as I don't have that many to buy for. I am still struggling to get my head round the fact it's less than 5 weeks til Crimbo, where has this year gone!!!!

Had kai at the vet today and he now has the all clear for his leg and he has permission to run around like a loony again , but Jim did mention not walk him near any cliffs!!!! Saw his exray and his leg looks good, he has very good bones and joint the vet says , so for a near 5 year old dog that is good to know. have put a pic of erin and paige after a hard night at training, i know she aint a munster but paws isnt allowed on the kids at the moment as she keeps bleeding on their pyjamas.

news and chat

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Hi - today spent the day in Harrogate - Christmas shopping - Ken was in charge of the three girls, he took them to the top of Ilkley Moor (bah tat) where Ruby encountered her first stream, she stood and watched her mum cross and off she went too and enjoyed leaping through the bracken.   Tonight been out for a nice meal, took a friend who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. We have a lot to learn from our munsters it is called unconditional love.
Karen glad you did well at the field trial - remember not to talk jargen when describing the day - some of us don't understand hunting terminology, (is AA road side services or Alcoholics Anon !! if we have a choice I don't want to join the non Alchoholic drinkers)  likewise with showing, I was asked this week which class to put an 18 month dog into for Crufts and trying to explain the different classes can take a while to get your head round when you have not done much showing.   Grace has gone to live with Louise and Stephen Molyneaux who owned Simply Dashing and they still have a Connomore bitch and a Goldie. Had picures back yesterday saying she is definitely in charge already - confident and happy, she ignors their growls and does her own thing.  It is great to hear about how your litter is doing, makes the hard work all worth while.   Wendy

Hi Mo,

Got home last night.  H wasn't being funny.  My fault - I never use the kennel names!

Yesterday was another Field Trial - this time an AA!  The whole trial was run in one field of sugar beet and was over by 12.30.  Inca did brilliantly.  On our first run she had two HPRs.  Only three of us got through to the second round (plus one other that didn't hunt was given a couple of minutes) and unfortunately after another lovely retrieve, this time on a strong running cock bird, we were out for bad ground management really which meant she was unable to point this bird. Didn't matter to me - she had worked really well and everyone had enjoyed themselves. Inca was given  the guns award at the end of the day which was great - they thought she was brilliant.  The only award was a 3rd which went to Fred Alcock.

We're out picking up again today - there's no peace for the wicked!

Linda and all other munsters owners come and enjoy Nat Apt Day nr Kelso this June - an excellent day, lovely atmosphere, good food, help and advise if needed, to join in or watch in a beautiful setting.  Pick up training ideas or just chat munsters - put it in your next years diary - sorry Helen (Field Trial Sec) pinching your ardour but it is such a good day for all.

I might actually make it this year, Mo! I've been waiting for a year when I wasn't going to Border Union as I can't afford 2 trips to Kelso in the same weekend. I don't think I'll go under the judge this year, she didn't do Chance any favours last time, so might just make it to the Nat Ap.

Snow? What's that? We've had rain, rain, oh, and more rain! Don't forget the wind as well! I look forward to the white stuff. It means I might just get snowed in for a little while. Unfortunately the roads get cleared very quickly here. That's what happens when you live on the main road north. That's the first road cleared.

no one has mentioned it but there is a lot of snow on that video. we havent had any snow yet but the kids would love it and paws could make red streaks in it to freak out the other kids!!!!

we use all sorts of toys tuggies squeakies cuddly and kai has the softest mouth i have ever come across he is so gentle so it must be to do with breeding too and he comes form a line of working dogs so it must have come through. even out on walks he has so much natural apptitude he would have made an amazing gundog for the right owner. he did his nat app with no help from me and did it brilliantly, glad he is passing it on to his kids - we are proud of all the kai kids out there. fingers crossed there will be some more for xmas [not for sale then of course]

working munsters

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
My first munster was a working bitch and we bred on from her in order to get another working bitch. Unfortunately though we split up and none of the dogs were 'worked' after that. However, I live in the countryside and take my dogs out into the local fields and woods. They work for themselves, to various degrees, but are all trained to come back to the whistle. (You listening to that Seska? The one who was almost on the dual carriageway again yesterday!!!) If any go on point I walk up to them and after steadying them allow them to flush the game. If they don't do this then I don't think they are good enough to breed from. They aren't showing enough natural ability. I strongly believe in getting them to work and showing just how well they can. In my latest litter, 4 were booked to go into working homes. So far the indications are that they are doing well. Only time will tell if they fulfill their obligations. I would much rather breed a good worker, than a show champion, though I know they should be able to do both, and I would be over the moon if I did breed a RCC or CC winner. Showing is just a bit of fun, and seeing what is out there to compare my dogs to.

training methods

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Hi Carol - it is like I just said, munsters are very, very intelligent and some can cope with whatever you give them or do with them.  The reason for the no squeaks is simply so that they don't grab the game too hard to get a squeak reward, a birds rib cage (which is quite delicate) if damaged, you are automatically sent out of the trial.  Raggy games (experts say - not me) that it can damaged a dogs mouth or make them hard mouthed, but the other reason I say that children shouldn't play raggy games is because if puppy/dog looses its hold on the toy, they often jump up and make a grab for the toy again and may accidently bite - these days some folk are well into suing, complaining and even reporting that 'the dog bit my child'  (seen it and heard it). I train and work mine to a gun-dog whistle - my husband also walks the dogs and whistles himself - not the same tone or even the same sequence but they understand.  I was also 'told' never play ball games because it encourages a dog to run after moving objects !!
No one method can be all right or all wrong - do what is best for you and your dog as long as your dog is safe when out and about.  Owning munsters is fun and rewarding and until you've owned one it is hard for anyone to understand.  Abbie's sister Poppy has just died whilst in kennels and Jane her owner came to visit yesterday and she said after owning a munster there could never be another breed that her family would consider. Thanks Mo for trying to retrieve my little video - I must have put it in cyber space !!   Wendy

Working dogs

Wendy to answer your question "work dog"    well where I stay at my back garden  is a big moor which goes all the way down to the Clyde Valley at Crossford  past Craignethan  castle  And there plenty game  deer  pheasent  grouse  rabbits   to keep any gundog busy  for a few hours
M

Hi Wendy,  Skye and Spring have a good time hunting in our local forests. If I see them sniffing the air and pointing then I praise them and say to them to "find it" and off they go without any encouragement! - they would still go if I said nothing. I don't know any training techniques to stop them rushing in but Skye has taught herself to wait and she approaches quite stealthly whereas Spring is a very enthusastic hunter. She must travel 4x the ground that Skye does.  I never got skye for going to shoots or field trials - didn't know such a thing existed but I have always encouraged her to find things in the woods. I videoed one walk but never again as the ground is not the easiest to walk on and I have the cuts and bruises to prove it.   The video is on the munsters site movies section if you want a laugh!

I think you mentioned in something that you wrote about not using squeaky toys as this does not help ensure the dog has a soft mouth - Our house is full of them!  I've done some agility training where a reward has been a play on a tuggy - another thing I have read that may not be good for a working dog.

Glad wee Grace has found a new home.

We've been house hunting at the moment and three that we would have gone for have been sold very quickly. One we seen at 13:00 one day - phoned lawyer to put in a note of interest that afternoon - we were the first - phoned a surveyor who would go out the next morning and when he tried to arrange access found out it was sold!!!!  Normally, in Scotland, you note your interest and the seller realises his property is in demand so sets a closing date for everyone to put in their secret bids but sellers are accepting "offers" without setting a closing date. If my property was in demand then I would "let the bidding begin". On one occasion our bid would have been way over what was accepted by one seller so I don't know what "buying techniques" are being used out their.

Ruby's first outing

We decided to go for our first walk despite the weather and took a little camera video which we hope you can see - good time was had by all in the hills above Grassington North Yorkshire.   Mo, certainly breeding does have some influence (natural ability) but also good training - no one answered my question about working their dogs ?  not necessarily in competitions or even on a shoot but encouraging them to work (hunt, point and retrieve) whilst out on a walk in your beautiful countryside.

Hi Karen - what super video's showing Ekko's progress, she is doing brilliant.  Is that your land ?  if so, can I come and stay with my motor home !!  This morning was planning on taking Ruby way up into the dales, off the beaten track, for her first walk (shouldn't really be out till Wednesday but the vet did say, be sensible where you go and it will be okay) but the weather dreadful, rain, sleet and snow forecast for the hills.  We are hoping it brightens up later because she so needs to be able to run off her 'steam'.
Lionel (now Max).JPGI used to sit in the puppy box and play with them for hours on end, every one knew their name, sit, paw and fetch at four weeks old, will try attach a pic of one bringing teddy back to hand. As some of you know I do puppy training - sorry owner training but I have never yet found a puppy of any breed as quick at learning as a munster - even other hpr's breeds are good but certainly not a quick on the uptake as these.  Hope you are all well - dogs and owners and welcome any more video's. Wendy.

feeling a lot better we have all had that bug on and off for 2 weeks now. paws is a bit better today too and has spent most of the morning sitting on the picnic table in the garden telling uncle ace all about it. he doesnt seemed too impressed. uncle hogan is trying to remember the good old days when girls in season meant something to him but thankfully those days are gone and we only have daddy to worry about with that problem. we have a big enough house so that isnt a problem and enough dogs so one always has company so no one feels left out. just away to training with ace so he can get rid of some energy.

Well Hi to all you early birds - and those of you who are  'normal' risers and sleepers - Grace left this afternoon with Louise and Stephen Molyneaux to live in North Wales. Just spoken to Louise who said she travelled well and now sussing out her new family and surroundings.  When they arrived here this lunch time (on Stephen's birthday) to collect Grace I did recognise them from both watching at Crufts this year and when they showed Georgia's brother (Simply Dashing) some years ago.  So once again shed a few tears of happiness tinged sadness but delighted that at last Grace has now a lovely family to give her 'special love' - her kennel name being Daleander Special Love and
for the first time this afternoon felt that I had a puppy of my own too - little Ruby (Tuesday) or Ruby, Ruby, Ruby - which ever era of music you happen to listen to.
I think the next few weeks are a little quieter on the showing scene here but not sure for those of you over the border?  Do any of you work your munsters ? Thank you again to Scottish Munsters for your support and keep up the  information and interesting details on your site.  Wendy

Yeah wendy its true. erin and wee buzz will be on tv in march on skys animal planet top dog show. they didnt do great on the day but had fun and thats the main thing as it pured the whole day. erin loves grace it is such a shme she cant come up to kelso to live it would have been good to have another one around, fingers crossed for this weekend and the new folk might want her. erin cant wait to find out if tilly is having pups so she can help again!! we are meant to be coming to club show but it all depends on the weather.

Morning,

Well done everyone who did well at GBAS on Saturday. Especially to my favourite girls Tilly & Suki. I must also apologise for anyone who is wondering why Mo didn't stay for BIS & BPIS. Unfortunately Mo had very kindly let me come along in her car. Now I didn't realise how late the judging was going to run on so as soon as we were finished I had to ask Mo to take me straight home as I had friends coming round at 5pm for a charity night we were going to. Believe me if I had known how late the show was going to run I would have come along in my own car & left as soon as my class had been judged (this would have been less stressful for everyone).

Also I just want to thank Vicky Gumley for her donation to the charity event I was attending on Saturday night. The night was a great success & I believe they raised over £10,000!!!! You're money went in the raffle Vicky but sadly we didn't win ANY prizes between us (we had bought about 100 tickets too!!). Thanks Again Though.

Wendy that's a shame about wee Grace. The family must be devastated? I hope the right home comes along soon for her.

Thanks Linda - it will help me recognise the dogs in the flesh so to speak - somehow they don't always look the same in photographs, often depending on which side of the dogs markings are shown - if you know what I mean.
Are any of you over the border coming down to club show seeing as it is further north this time ? What about my favourite little girl - sorry big girl - you look so grown up Erin when you are showing. Is it true you will be on the telly soon ?  Let us know details if true, don't want to miss it.
I've only just noticed that you can enter puppies 'not for comp.' once they are four months old, so might bring mine along to give her an airing with Lila.  Wendy.

Well done to Erin and Paws, a good reward for a busy day and special thanks for showing Spring, once you showed the old codgers how it's suppose to be done.

Tilly was looking really well at the show and congratulations to Mo on BoB.

Wee Grace looks like a cracker I'm sure she'll bring loads of fun to any home.

Firstly, great news Karen on your Field Trial Award - well deserved for all your hard work and effort.
Also well done to all this weekends show entrants - good photos, any chance you could put pedigree name on as well as pet name for those of us with memory failure !!
Just to update you on Grace - couldn't go to Kelso today - landlord wouldn't allow a third dog, big disappointment all round.  Possible new owners coming next weekend  - won't say another word, don't want to tempt fate, but keeping fingers and toes crossed.  Grace is such a lovely pup - will try put picture up of her just taken.  Wish I could keep both Ruby and Grace.

when we were at newark this weekend there were fireworks going off all around us and none of the four dogs we had with us were bothered thankfully.i was mostly worried bout ace as collies can be noise sensitive but he was great.

all read yfor saturday, paws is a bit hyper at the moment so erin wont get an easy time of it.

Big Relief

Hi,

Wendy, that is Fantastic News!!!! I am so relieved that everything has worked out in the end. You've had a bumpy road but you've coped brilliantly. I am over the moon for you. Can't wait to meet Ruby & hopefully with Grace being in Kelso we can see her at the next Nat Apt??

Pam xx

Morning all - got to tell the whole wide world that Ruby's is 100% fit.  Malcolm Ness saw the second xray yesterday and said no problems, everything fine - can't even begin to tell you how we feel.  I had a few tears, Ken had a few tears and believe it or not, so did Andy my vet - he has gone through this whole nightmare of Lila and then Ruby every step of the way with us, he has been one brilliant caring vet.

So it is Grace that is leaving on Monday to live in Kelso with Elaine and Stuart and their two dogs and I think several other family members.  Stuart wants to work her so any help I am sure will be warmly appreciated from those of you who live near.  Thank you to all of who have asked, emailed and shared our pain and worry - it is been one hell of a journey that I wouldn't want anyone else to experience.  Cheers   Wendy

Sorry, but I can never get these to work on my computer. Do you think that being on dial up, rather than broadband has anything to do with it?

I've been speaking to one of my puppy owners today and she was telling me that she is having to keep a very close eye on her pup. One of her friends wants to steal her!!!! If anyone know of a young bitch looking for a home (not a puppy) then this home has been recommended to me. She doesn't really want a dog, but would consider one. They live in Argyll with lots of space to run about in (and pheasants, and deer, etc to play with.....!!)

Looking forward to Saturday as I will be able to compare the little devil (oops, I mean Pepsi!) against other Munster pups, not Am Cockers, Retrievers, Spaniels, etc. Her ring number on Sunday was 333, so the little devil name was quite apt......!

Hi,

Wow, the video of Ekko doing a water retrieve is brilliant. Not only was I impressed with the little 10 week old pup's excellant retrieve to hand but I was also really impressed with the adult dog who was quite happy to just watch the little one do her thing & not jump right in & "steal" the retrieve. Brilliant!!!! Put's me to shame I'll tell you.

Welcome back Linda, glad you're up & running again.

Is everyone ready for Saturday, who is all going?

Wendy, how is little Ruby getting on this week? Have you found the perfect home yet?

My computer went down for a while. It looks like the server itself was at fault, not my computer as I thought. I didn't realise just how much I would miss checking up with family and friends. How did we manage before computers? I have a brother in Malaysia and email is the only way we keep in touch, except for emergencies. It costs a lot of money to phone Malaysia, and once we start talking.............

Off to catch up on everything so might be gone a while again......

Hi,

Fee looks like she has taken to motherhood like a duck to water. The puppies look absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to hear more about them as they grow.

Thanks for your congrats Wendy. I will never forget that day at the Nat Apt, it was a real turning point for me & Elvis. Thanks again for all your help & advice over the past few years, you & everyone else. I couldn't have done it without you. I am just glad that I put the effort in to turn things around. I love Elvis & I wouldn't be without him. It feels good to know that the hard work has paid off & I now have a dog who is a pleasure to own. Yes he has his moments but I'm sure even the best trained dogs in the world can have their off days.

Sorry Pam and Elvis - missed the bit about you getting BOB - well done.  Can you remember when we first met at the Nat Apt - I can remember saying to you then that you'd got a really nice dog, he was a handful at that time, but you have worked tremendously hard with him - it does pay off doesn't it, really pleased for you.
Tonight been really bad here with fireworks non-stop since 5.30 pm never ever known them as loud or as many.
We have had them every night for nearly a week - I think they should be banned apart from organized bonfires,
we just got into bed one night after 11 pm  and I thought a bomb had gone off.  Abbie - hates them even though she works to the gun - but these whistlers followed by an almighty bang are stupid - so are the people that buy them.
Apologies for moaning - I know most kids love bonfire night but these loud bangers are not for children and definitely not for animals.    Wendy

Fee, Ch. Questa Von St. Vit had 8 boys and 5 girls on Saturday - and I am really pleased to say delivery was normal and mum and puppies doing great - and so is Christine - she is even getting her beauty sleep.  I am sure Oscar is a very proud dad (as is Caz and family). It is good to hear that this pregnancy went according to the book and mum content and confident - even though it is her first litter.  Raymond sending me a picture but not arrived as yet.  More news as and when.

I'm sure the judge had a hard time yesterday as Chance, Elvis and Tilly all looked and showed very well. Pam -it was worth taking all those burrs off before going in the ring.

Good Morning,

I can't believe it's Monday again already, where did the weekend go??!!! It was nice to catch up with some of the guys yesterday. It was a long day though & I was very glad to get home.

Mo & Carole, I checked my passes & see that it is Saturday that GBAS is on. I am sorry for doubting you. Mo, I'll be picking Elvis up Friday night so if we can meet you at Newhouse on Sat morning that would be ideal. I see we are 2nd in Ring 6 behind Pointers. Does anyone know that pointer entry so we can try & think when we'll be on?? I imagine we won't need to be there til 11.30ish at the earliest (judging starts at 9.30am).

I don't even want to think about next Saturday yet!!!! I do know of one or two who won't be there. Still, not a bad entry for what is basically a glorified open show for us.

I still have to get tomorrow over and done with. Baths have been taken (dogs, not me - yet!) mind you, I think I'm almost as wet as if I'd had a bath myself. Pepsi's first bath was fun - NOT!!!! I think I need flippers........... and a snorkel...... My helper bailed out on me. She went to her dad's for the weekend. Still, I'll have plenty of help next week. On my own tomorrow though, so any help gratefully received.

Grace and Ruby

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Hi -  Just got back in from the vets, Andy very pleased with Ruby's xray and full range of movement but Malcolm Ness did want to see her latest xray on Andy's 'training' day next Wednesday.  Sorry Carol but Ruby is on the right as you look at them on both pictures, she has the most solid black on her body.  I still haven't decided which one stays - Ken liked Ruby the minute he held her as the vet handed them to us to rub up and scrub up, probably as she looked the most like Lila at that moment, but Grace so endearing and perhaps going to be lighter marked - but who knows and does it really matter, all munsters are truly beautiful what ever colour or breeding, fun to own and the most loving dog you could wish for.
These are in a away two peas in a pod - bright as buttons - both already know several commands even back and fetch and the trill whistle for recall. I just keep saying my prayers that, like all their other litter mates, another lovely family comes forward for one of my very special girls.  Wendy

Ruby and Grace

Hi Wendy,  Love the pictures of Ruby and Grace - which one is Ruby.  I'm guessing she is the one on the left in the lying down photo as a very similar cheeky expression that Skye had/s but I could be completely wrong. I've put the picture up on the puppies page on the parent web site or you can get there from

A Lila pup

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Hi Pam, would really love to keep both Ruby and Grace as I am so so attached to them equally (all three girl pups in the litter were excellent in type and construction and temperament) but is not practical or sensible - can't show two together in the same class and would not leave one at home when off for a few days in the motor home to the different shows and working events. As for training two from the same litter that is not easy, a pup, in my opinion needs your undivided attention a lot of the time, the more you put in, the the easier they are when older.  Abbie and Lila are old enough and wise enough to understand and are more than happy to help with training by example.
One pup is for sale once Ruby has had her second xray (she was the real live wire in the litter, she used to stop the seven boys from getting back in the whelping box single handed !! we think whilst trying to jump over the box or when rough and tumbling around she injured her leg so she went straight to my vets - and my vet being who he is, said xray now and xray in a month down the line to compare the two to make 100% sure her growth plate is unaffected.  We also have the added experience of Malcolm Ness (one of the top in the country) who Andy is having lectures with at the moment and he took Ruby's first xray and Malcolm has offered to look at the second. I gather to diagnose a young pups growth plate and bones is very very difficult, so that is why my vet is using his time with Malcolm to get me an extra (free) consultation.  So a loving, caring home will be wanted for one of the pups in a week or so - after they have gone though my interview  !!!

Morning,

Wow Wendy the puppies are gorgeous!! Are you keeping both??? What cute faces, so full of expression, beautiful.

Thanks for the list of 2008 Judges, I really find it useful so I can plan my show calendar for next year.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Waverley on Sunday, should be a good day.

Well done on getting here, Wendy. It took me a few attempts to get on this page. I had to ask Maureen how to do it in the end! (I don't understand these new fangled things, computers!!)
